Ephraim Wasse

Ephraim Wasse

Ephraim Wasse is an artist, photographer, and activist. His main artistic medium is photography, though he also utilizes video and digital tools in his work. Born in Israel to parents who immigrated from Ethiopia during “Operation Moses,” the core themes of Wasse’s work include a critique of family life in the periphery of Israel. These works are centered on the natural environment of his home and the neighborhood where he grew up, with a particular emphasis on parental influences and Ethiopian culture. Another central theme in several of his works is his own body dysmorphia and the sense of shame it invokes. Wasse is a graduate of the Minshar School of Art in Tel Aviv, and is the Artistic Director and Curator of “CallActivit,” a cultural movement that advances black voices as agents of change through culture, art, and critical thought.

Eprhaim will be in residence at Dillard University in New Orleans for the full academic year.
